February Half Term 2026 – Illuminating History

14 February - 22 February

We’re lighting up the past this February Half Term at the Museum of Cambridge, with trails and crafts relating to the Magic Lantern.

Magic lanterns were an early type of image projector – the ancestor of film projectors used today – which were used for education and entertainment during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Throughout the week, take part in a trail through the Museum and use recreation magic lanterns to see a story from Cambridge’s incredible history.

But that’s not all, we are also running FREE drop-in craft sessions for you to create your own magic lantern slide picture. Come and see an original magic lantern from the Museum’s collection and try out your slide on our recreation lantern.

We’re also delighted to be involved in Twilight at the Museums again this year, with a late opening on Wednesday 18th February. We’ll dim the lights and let you explore our historic building in the twilight from 4-7pm. Remember to pop over to the Enid Porter Room for the drop-in craft at the same time too!
