ReStorying OUR Museum
Do you enjoy local history and museums? Would you like to connect with other Cambridgeshire residents who share your interests? Do you want to rethink the way Britain’s colonial past appears in museums? Then we want to hear from you!
What is this about?
The Museum has been taking a closer look at objects in its collection that relate to Britain’s colonial history, and is now launching the new pilot project, “ReStorying OUR Museum”, to understand how we can better display objects linked to that past.
By joining this project, you will engage with other Cambridgeshire community members to work on exploring how we might re-interpret a specific object from our collection, with links to Britain’s colonial past. We want different voices to join the conversation and help us create a more participatory display of this object.
What will you be doing?
We will meet once weekly and virtually, for 3-5 sessions of approx. 1.5 hours each, for a month and a half (the exact number of sessions for the whole project is still being discussed, and we will let you know as soon as we can how many we are going to run).
Before you apply, please make sure you will have some time in your schedule during March and April. This position is on a voluntary-basis.
How do I apply?
Express your interest in joining here and work collaboratively with the Museum of Cambridge in its pilot project “ReStorying OUR Museum”. Applicants will go through a selection process and be notified if we have been able to offer them an opportunity to participate within a week from the closing date, which is 15th March.
Staff and other volunteers will be by your side every step of the way, giving you a unique opportunity to discover, experience, and contribute to what happens behind the scenes during museum work. This project is also a good opportunity to connect during these hard times, get more involved in your community, and learn something new! We hope you will join us in restorying the museum!
