Cambridge Talks: Telling Tales of Cambridge City
21 December 2020, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for the first of our Cambridge Talks, a series of events raising funds for the Museum of Cambridge’s fundraising appeal #YourMuseumNeedsYou.
Curious about Cambridge’s heritage beyond the colleges?
Want to learn about the history of your area, but don’t know where to start?
Do you have a suitcase full of family photos and stories, and want to know how to share them?
In this talk, Roger Lilley will be exploring Capturing Cambridge, a community-based history project which focuses on the shared heritage of the city of Cambridge.
Roger will zoom in on the area of Newtown, with a particular focus on how class differences impacted residents’ experiences of living in Cambridge.
We will also reveal how to upload your own photos, documents or research to help us build a richer understanding of the history of this dynamic city.
Roger has contributed to the Capturing Cambridge project and worked on other WWI related local history projects in Cambridge for several years. Currently a governor of Homerton Children’s Centre and treasurer of St John the Evangelist Hills Road, he was previously a teacher at Milton Road Primary School, a national campaigner for Friends of the Earth and an underwriter at Lloyd’s of London. Roger is also a member of the Board of Trustees at the Museum of Cambridge.
All proceeds from this event will go towards the Museum of Cambridge’s fundraising appeal #YourMuseumNeedsYou, which aims to help us overcome the huge financial blow dealt by the Covid-19 pandemic.
We want to say a huge thank you to all our supporters who have helped us over the last few weeks and months. So, we have made this event ‘donate what you like’ – you can choose how much to donate in exchange for your ticket.
