Volunteering at the Museum of Cambridge – For when visiting museums just isn’t enough!

Imagine this: you’re lingering in a museum for hours, passionately chatting to strangers about history, sneaking a peek behind the scenes… and you’re appreciated for it!

Welcome to the wonderful world of volunteering at the Museum of Cambridge: where your curiosity is a superpower, not a nuisance!

By joining our team, you’re not just indulging your love of the past, you’re supporting an independent charity and making a real difference in your community. History never sounded so good, right?

As a Front of House Volunteer you will help create memorable experiences for every visitor who walks through our doors.

As the welcoming face of the museum, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our mission as an independent charity: connecting communities through objects, memories, and conversation. You’ll greet visitors, answer questions, and help them discover the fascinating heritage of Cambridgeshire. Your enthusiasm sets the tone for an inspiring and enjoyable visit.

Volunteering in this role offers the opportunity to gain experience in a friendly, inclusive environment surrounded by a team of people passionate about local history. You’ll also have the chance to get involved behind the scenes and deepen your knowledge of the museum’s rich collection.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply enjoy making people feel welcome, this is a rewarding way to give back to your community and be part of something meaningful. Plus, (not that you need further encouragement of course) as much tea, coffee and biscuits as you can enjoy!

Join us — and gain new skills, new connections, and the satisfaction of making every visitor’s experience truly special.
