Legacies of Windrush in Cambridgeshire

It is with huge delight that the Museum of Cambridge announces that it has been awarded Arts Council England Funding through the National Lottery to work with the African Caribbean Research Group on a new project in 2024 and 2025.

Legacies of Windrush in Cambridgeshire is a community-curated project working with ACRG, which follows on from the partnership and popularity of the Black History Lectures in 2023 delivered by researcher Carol Brown-Leonardi. This partnership, working with Mrs Brown-Leonardi as part of the African Caribbean Research Group, seeks to preserve and amplify African Caribbean voices in history of Cambridgeshire.

The collaborative work of the project will be showcased in an exhibit launching in Autumn 2024, as well as a series of talks and events emerging from the project running into 2025.

Through its collections, the Museum of Cambridge looks to represent the many diverse and important histories of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire that may otherwise be overlooked. By working with ACRG, we’re excited to bring new stories from our community to the Museum and onto our online social history website, CapturingCambridge. We can’t wait to hit the ground running on this project and will be sharing updates as the project gets underway in the spring and the exhibition opens in Autumn 2024.
