Why Gift Aid Matters

Gift Aid was worth £1.7bn a year to UK charities in 2024/2025 but did you know that every year around £560m goes unclaimed?

As an independent charity, the Museum of Cambridge receives no regular public funding and are not part of the University of Cambridge. Running the Museum costs around £250,000 per year, and we rely on the incredible generosity of volunteers and supporters like you.

Gift Aid allows charities like ours to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated or spent on eligible admissions – at no extra cost to you. For us, that boost makes all the difference. It helps us care for our collections, keep our exhibitions alive, and provide programmes for schools, families, and our wider community.

Throughout October, we’re spreading the word about how powerful Gift Aid really is. As part of this, we’ll be celebrating Gift Aid Awareness Day on Thursday 9th October, and we’d love our visitors and supporters to join in.

It’s simple: whenever you buy admission including a donation, or support us in another way, just remember to tick the Gift Aid box if you’re a UK taxpayer. That small action instantly increases the value of your support, giving us access to vital extra funding.

Planning a visit the Museum this month? Help us achieve our Gift Aid target challenge – every visitor who adds a Gift Aid declaration to their admission can add a sticker to our target board. We’re aiming for 100 stickers by the end of October!

If you are already a supporter of the Museum please complete a Gift Aid declaration form to make sure we can claim an extra 25% at no extra cost to you.
